I don't think cutting is a bipolar thing...but I did read this interesting theory that it's a cultural thing ie/ it's "big in High School" in recent years- particularly in the US. That much like bulimia, young women can learn such behavior from their peers. I thought that interesting. Kinda makes sense to me.

I have never self harmed either.

guys too, I guess.

& I guess if you start dealing with 'uncomfortable feelings' (therapyspeak) via method such a cutting..it would be addictive & seem instinctual every time one experienced such emotions. Yeah?

Cutting for me is a control thing, because that is the only pain I can control. It is also a way to make sure I can still feel something when I feel numb inside. My high school had 30 kids in it ... I didn't pick it up there I figured it out on my own (unfortunatly).

hey charity, I am glad you shared & didn't cut. self abuse/cutting can occur with bipolar altho its not diagnostic...it also can occur w/ borderline personality disorder...I have experienced self abuse in the past, for me a response to intense pain, to numb it... this was way before it was really known like it is today...better now, for the most part, at least in this area....there is hope.

Why is it when I need someone to talk to there is no one around. I can't do this ... I give up.
