I figure as long as both parties contribute equally to household expenses, then what ever each has left over they get to spend on themselves - you spend your money on docs, meds, whatever you need - and he spends his extra cash on whatever he wants. Whoever makes more gets more, but that's life.
Some people are able to work, some are not. For better or worse doesn't seem like it has any meaning to people anymore. Don't let him make you feel like it's your fault.
I am not sure how it all works in the U.S. but could you see about applying for disability?

I don't have any advice for the financial situation, but if you let things cool down and take some time for him(and you I suppose) to simply reflect, these problems will seem a little more manageable and hopefully you can start working things out.
I no longer have medical insurance and am screwing myself up bigtime. I have had insurance for most of my life and I don't think I know how to handle life without insurance.
We just received the cost of lab testing my wife's blood.
He also thinks his addiction to cigarettes is as valid as my need for meds. Bunch of BS if you ask me.
My suggestion is to call him on it, but then again, that hasn't really gotten me anywhere. At least I don't feel like a coward for not standing up for myself though which is what I'd feel like if I didn't say anything.
