Ok I am asking for your help I think my son is bi-polor or at least that is what the doctors say and I am scared to death HE IS ONLY TEN YEARS OLD AND I SCARED TO DEATH THAT THIS WILL CAUSE MORE HARM THEN GOOOD. will any one tell me how old you were when they were diagnosed and do all these pills really help. he was originally diagnosed with adhd before the pills he was hyper but happy. now he is so sad and angry all the time. I just want him to be happy, can you please help.

he probably upset and doesn't understand what in means.. don't be afraid to ask questions from the doctor.. educate him and your self..

I was first add or maybe it was adhd.. I was about 5... slowly that turned into bipolar.. I am 17 and have had mood disorders for most of my life... the most important thing is to make sure he knows you love him... and that having a official diagnosis does NOT make him any different then before... the diagnosis only lets him get the help he needs to feel better.. the key part is" to feel better.."

I found as a preteen that when someone ses you NEED something when it comes to mental health I would get very offended... I wouldask him what about his emotions is the worst... or ask him if he feels he needs something to change... I would LEAVE OUT terms like therapy, mental hospital, or similar things.. these are things that have bad reputations.. and kids/ teens often become upset when adults use those terms...I know I did.. I see 3-4 therapists (depending on if you count my case manager) it way more then most people need.. im NOT recommending that many... what im saying is a lot of kids become emotional when told they need to see someone or go some where... LISTEN TO HIM try and work in what he wants/needs his worries/concerns... make sure he is involved with his care.. I feel much better when I know whats happening , what things mean, why we are doing what were doing, I like to be involved in the planning ... I know its hard for parents to accept but they don't know everything about there kids... it makes me soooo angry when my parents speak for me...

one last thing... THE DIAGNOSIS IS JUST SO HE CAN GET HELP... HE WOULD HAVE THE SAME MOOD SWINGS WETHER HE WAS DIAGNOSED OR NOT.. think of the diagnosis as opining a window into a brighter future....
