Bipolar Disorder - Teen Support Group
This community is dedicated to teenagers struggling with bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. Talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, and learn from others' experiences
Once you learn how to identify when you are going into a manic phase or going into a depressive phase and can call your doctor for treatment early on to prevent going into a full-blown episode you will be controlling the disease.
I recommend being proactive rather than reactive! Take it from me! I'm old and have been more reactive most of my life and lost many jobs, relationships and suffered in school because I loved the highs of bipolar. Start young in controlling this disease.
I know it feels like a "curse" to have this disease but it's nothing you did to get it; it's purely genetic. Someone, somewhere in your family, either diagnosed or not had/has it. Religion has NOTHING to do with it. There are many, many good religious people out there suffering with mental illness. You are not alone. In fact, your religion will help you deal with the illness. You sound like a very strong and bright young lady. Stay strong and stay smart.
I also realize that it genetic. Its a gene passed down through autosomal dominant inheritance. I am fully aware that my father gave me this gene. But I feel like I got screwed over with the deal. I don't want to have to deal with this.
