Beyond Medication Community Group
In this group we will be looking at alternative or supplementary methods of dealing with every day stressors and anxiety. This is for people who do not want to feel as though they do not want to be tied to the medicine cabinet. We will be using such techniques as mindfulness, meditation, grounding, guided imagery, Yoga and other behavioral and self-discipline techniques...
so im not one to answer your question...
I exercise, cry, yell at my pillow. Exercise obviously being the most productive.
When anxious, coloring reminds me that I should be working on a dietetics or food science degree so it makes me more anxious, to be honest. I color a lot at work so I tend towards dance versus coloring/painting or drawing at these times.
I use EFT a lot now. It has helped a lot but a bit dangerous because you have to use it every day or you get stressed and anxious all over again.
could it be because it's considered a narcotic and he's just just playing the cyoa game?
Mind you exercise, whether biking, hiking or just a half hour's walk at least a few times a week can do wonders too
I like to work out and run to relax, listen to music too, talk to my kids, pet the cat.
I like to cry when anxious but often just work on my portfolio instead.
I also like to take a heating pad and place it on my tummy. It is very soothing somehow.
As an alternative, take a soft blanket, put it in the dryer on high, then wrap up in it.
My AA sponsor said once when I was freaking, "You shock your system. Go get in the tub an make it as hot as you can stand and stay there as long as you can stand." I did it and I felt much better. He told me later that cold would work too, either very hot OR very cold. I use hot because I can't stand the feeling of being cold.
Lastly, there is a guided meditation that I find very soothing called "Your Present: A Half Hour of Peace": I love it so much I have given it as a gift a couple of times.
I hope you all find this helpful.
