I don't know where to meet friends. I don't/can't drink, so bars are out and around this area that is the only place people go to meet! I don't belong to a church (by choice) although I believe in God. I'm disabled, so walking thru malls is difficult ~ and besides, I live in the 'sticks' so there's no malls around here anyway! LOL
As for your nephew, NO DO NOT GIVE HIM $75.00 A WEEK!!!!! That kid should be working, regardless of how his load is at school. He sounds like a spoiled brat and needs to find out what REAL life is like ~ you have to bust your butt in the real world. So don't give him the money!!!!! EVER.
Best of luck! hugs, Lee
I have to agree with you. When you become a widow there is an instant threat with the other women. My dad passed away and my mon went through the same thing. All of a sudden you are not welcome anymore. My husbnd just passed away 3 weeks ago so I am prepared. I have seen it happen and expect it. The insecurity comes out bigtime. You are now single and they have to protect their property. I feel if they are really my friends there is no insecurity. But obiviously they were not true friends to begin with.
I do go to church and it does help a lot. We did everything together so we did not have a large circle of friends. People are saying get out, make friends. I am not an outgoing person that can enter a room and have 6 people talking to me. I am quiet but friendly. I am not apt to walk up to someone and ask "will you be my friend" LOL. Like you said where do you meet people. When your sad and hurting it is very hard to be out thre trying to make friends.
You need to take care of yourself first. Being on SSI you don't need to be giving him 75.00. I agree he needs to work and help take care of himself.
My heart and prayers are with you.
Best of luck and peace be with you

What you all are saying is interesting and shocking. I would think people would have more sympathy. Suddenly alone and they take away thier friendship when you need it most. Truely scary.
I'm 46 and have only a few friends so I cant give you much advice on making friends. But it seems to me there are a lot of widows and widowers out there. Could one find a group of them that gets together for social events? If the couples are out, then how about other singles? Of course that's harder if you live in remote area. Anyone have any ideas here?
Best wishes
