I make tribute VIDEOS of my departed brother, using old video footage of him when he was alive, well and having a good time Here's one from 1992-1993, when he was 27 years old, clearly in the prime of his life, that shows how handsome he was, his charm, his warmth, his humor, his intelligence and his mechanical wizardry:

If you've kept old video footage through the years of your mother and have the technical means to edit it and post it on the web, video is definitely the way to go. Still pictures or written words are OK, but video shows the person in a way mere words or even still photos cannot. People can SEE the person in full motion, HEAR the tone of the person's voice, get to the person in their own way and draw their own conclusions.
When my wife, Carol, died unexpectedly in March of 2015 I was determined to tell the world what a spectacular person she was. After doing a little research, I decided to go with www.forevermissed.com to create an online memorial. (If interested, go to the site and type in Carol Pilkington in the SEARCH box)
I do more there than most I suppose. I'm definitely getting my money's worth :) I look at it as a living memorial. Something I can keep adding to. Good therapy.
Carol had a lot of potential that she wasn't able to use due to various medical problems. She had become socially isolated. That made it especially important for me to tell her story with her photos and poetry.
It may work for you.
I know your mother now, through your words and the world seems a little better place today :)
What an wonderful legacy to carry forward, how proud you must be to have such an extraordinary person as a mom!
She already has a monument...inside you. You will carry on her legacy and as long as people know her, through you, she will live on. Trust me, this is coming from a daughter of another extraordinary woman, who left too soon, but never forgotten.
We don't need other people in our lives just like our moms, I don't think that's even possible. But that's okay, this is not a relationship to be replaced. Let her be all around you, feel her love and always remember you will keep her alive :)
Hugs and love,
J
