Does anyone know of any good support groups in the Dallas/Fort Worth area? I've been looking for a long time... I've stumbled upon a few, but most have been held at inconvenient times/days for the "working person". I'm looking for a supportive group of people to surround myself with, and who are willing to listen, share their experiences/advice with grieving, who are non-judgmental, and non-denominational. I've been grieving the loss of my mother, who died on March 28, 2011, my grandfather (my mother's father), who died on March 17, 2011, my father, who died on October 14, 2011, as well as a loss of family support.

I am so sorry for all of your recent losses. Unfortunately, I am in Va. However I too was looking for a group, like you described and couldn't find one that suited me right away. I do go to one now that is sponsored by a hospital here. I love it and have met some wonderful, supportive people, whom I now consider my extended family. There is a preacher that leads the group but he doesn't push religion down your throat. The meetings are only twice a month but, everyone has each othes' phone numbers. One female, in particular, and I have gone shopping, out to eat and really have become good friends. I can also relate to the lack of family support. I didn't have much family to start with but have found them to be only kin, by blood. I much prefer my "new family". You may also want to check with your local Hospice. They may help you, or give you some recommendations. If you haven't done so already, check online. It can't hurt! In the meantime, I have found a lot of support and comfort here too. I have even made a few long distance friends here, as well. I know it's not the same as in person but, I can almost feel the hugs and hands reaching out to me. Take care and let me know how you're doing. Someone is usually here to talk to 24/7.

Thank you all for your posts. I have been working with a counselor, but not as frequently as I would like, which is why I have been seeking out an in-person support group. I feel like it would help to share with other people who are grieving/healing/coping as well, and provide some "relief". However, it is nice to see people's support on here too. I'm trying to make more of an effort to log onto here and participate in more discussions. Maybe we can chat some time. I feel sharing/talking one-on-one with people helps me to re-focus and relate to others in their grieving process. Hope to hear from you all soon. Take care.
