Not Sure of What to do

My father passed in May 2011. I know I am still struggling with the grief. Although I'm no longer at the point where I am crying multiple times each day, I still find myself crying at times when I am alone for example, when I am in the car by myself or late at night when my young son and husband fall asleep. Is this a normal part of the grieving process this far out from my father's passing or does it mean I need to seek professional help? My father and I were so close. I never lived without him even though I am 42 now. I just didn't expect him to leave me this early in my life.

I think its completely normal. I to, cry the most at night. When my two boys are asleep, I think because its quite and your mind starts focusing on it. My hubby passed 6 months ago and its been very difficult. I'm getting a little better though because I know he's with me. I'm so sorry for your loss. If you want counseling then go for it,, I think its great for some. I don't personally go, I have this group and family that are all I need. I wish you all the luck, hugs!

I've found what has been very therapeutic, for me, has been going back through family VIDEOS, when my brother was alive and well. It really helps to see and HEAR him, in full motion and color. I thought it would be painful, but I actually find it very soothing. It's so real, it's as though he's still here. And it honors his memory, his LIFE, not his death. I think it pleases him, that I'm still thinking of him, and watching videos of him.

I stopped shooting videos of him shortly after he got sick though. It's very upsetting to see him so skinny, and in so much pain.

Hi Bridget. I remember you, when I first came here. We had lost our Dad's within a few weeks of each other and were both suffering tremendously from our losses. I find myself at the same point as you, and wonder if the struggling will ever end. The love and wonderful memories of our Fathers have left everlasting impacts on our hearts. I think it's normal to feel as we do. But if you think counseling might help, it couldn't hurt to give it a try. As for me, as long as I feel my Dad's presence/guidance, I'll be okay. TC
