I am writing at least a few columns today and I do hope that I get some replies.I have to write about this woman again because i heard that she is trying to get in touch with me.Her name is Mrs.Rosenberg and she still is in great pain.The date was November 18,1978 and there was a mass suicide at Jonestown.Mrs.Rosenberg lost her son,her daughter-in-law,2 grandchildren,a nephew and a niece.She did not even know about Jones at all.Mrs.Rosenberg is Jewish.Since I grew up in an all Jewish town..The Jewish faith is different.In Judaism there are many sects and many kinds of prayers.When I met her..she was skinny as she told me about Jones.She told me that the last time she spoke to her son..he told her about Jones.Listen..if her son was under 18..she could have taken legal action in the city of New York..but there are no laws at all when an adult joins one of these cults and it takes a toll on everyone involved.She did not even know that her entire family was there.They left immediately under mysterious circumstances.They left their jobs and their homes and their schools.It was like they vanished off the face of the earth.This was in 1978 and people did not talk about religion.Noone wanted to get involved.Noone would listen to her at all.She was literally alone.What can a mother do? It takes years to get custody now.It is now an easy task.In fact..the bodies that were identified it took at least two months before the living relatives were notified.They had to leave the bodies in Jonestown.To send a body back was at least 7,000.00.Noone helped.So this woman who did not know anything about Jones did not know him at all..told the officials to leave the bodies.They did not even send her the affects.There were so many of them.There were clothes and Ids and such and it would have taken years to get them back.Her entire family is buried in a jungle in a remote part of the world because of a madman.He was mad and noone could say anything against him.And there were was at least a great deal of social security checks that were never cashed.After this tragedy,the goverment burned the compound at Jonestown.It is totally burned.Noone is allowed to go back.And noone knows what has happened to all of this money.She is still trying to get closure.She doesnt know what to say or do.My late grandfather told me this ..never to discuss religion under no circumstances and he was right..everyone worships God in a different way.We cant force religion down a persons throat.We must learn to accept other people and cultures.But all of this information..is just pain to this aging senior citizen..I have got a question..when I do see her..How do I greet Mrs.Rosenberg? What do i say to her? There were no services for the family.The bodies were never recovered.Noone knows where they are and since it has been 30 years..the goverment of Guyana refuses to discuss this case or the whereabouts of the money and bodies.Jonestown was a major embarrassment to them and who could blame them? But what about this lady? What would you do? Now she just eats Kosher food and I have a question...does anyone know of a kosher /vegan restaurant that I can her to? What do I do as a hostess? If you are Jewish,may I ask something..Can she at least have coffee and a pastry? What do I offer her? Please let me know.Thanks.Vader.
