It's been 10 years now since my best friend of 35 years to breast cancer that had spread all over.
I didn't get to be with her physically when she died but her husband held the phone up to her ear so I could say my good byes.
I told her I loved her and when it was my time I expected her to come get me.
I was very sad for a long, long time. I mean I still miss her and have sad times but it softens and the good happy memories crowd out the bad.
She sent me several signs to make me know she was ok.
A single pink rosebud on my bush to bring to her funeral
A single pink petunia pushed up out of the grass in a random place
A small butterfly landed on my breast and sat there just folding and unfolding its wings when I was in my hottub. I can't tell you for how long as tears streamed down my face but it was a half hour or more.
I wish you peace and signs from your friend
I do recall my own tough moments while watching a loved one slip out of life. It's a burden too. Even the little things we shared seem much more important than usual after the passing of a close partner. And at times, I was annoyed by people who just wanted to be friendly and comfort me, and I avoided mingling with strangers frequently. I still don't mix with outsiders, just my close or immediate family, and I find this way most comfortable.
In the slightest way, if you can stand it, try at the least to consider how your dear friend would want you to cope. I do find that speaking calmly out in the open brings about a sense of the departed one's presence. It appears that you shared very close and sweet times together. But it always will be the hurt of watching her die, just keep in mind the peace she felt at having you there to hold her hand. Take care not to allow the hurt to overwhelm you.
Just as with the above poster, there will be times when the smell of roses comes out of nowhere. And your soul will swear that it's the spirit of your friend contacting you. The flames of your solid friendship still live on with the same intensity, dear one.
Holding you today, God bless you!
Be blessed today. You have a great heart.
I can't stop crying over this gigantic loss in my life in the privacy of my apartment. I can't provide encouragement yet, but for me, it is therapeutic to allow my feelings to bubble to the surface and not stifle them as I was taught growing up.
