Hi everyone, this is my first post. March 22nd 2014 we lost our granddaughter, 25 yrs old. Heather was born blind and had other disabilities but she was a ray of sunshine in our lives. We were all so devastated and in shock as most are. She went to bed and her baby sister found her the next morning. She went to wake her and couldn't. Our worst nightmare had begun. Then on March 25th, I got a call that my precious mother had passed away. I remember the first thing I said, " God, you tell us you never put more on us than we can bear, but my mother and my granddaughter, how will I ever cope with that? So we all lived in a blur thru those days. We buried our granddaugther and then left the next morning for Florida to bury my mother. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to go through. I miss her as much today as I did when she passed. Both of them. My daughter has had a horrible time, she devoted her life to Heather and said Mom what I am suppose to do now? We have both had counseling and it helped but the pain is still so great. I thought joining this group might help me and I plan to have her check it out too. Thank you so much for listening to me.

Due to my increased paranoia, anxiety, and a panic attack over the weekend, my psychiatrist has put me back in a full dose of Zyprexa until further notice. Every time I think I'm getting ahead something happens and it's back to square one. I knew he was gonna do this but I can't help feeling disappointed. It is what it is.

Well, good morning to you!Today is National Roller Coaster Day. Are any of you going? It's also National Tell-A-Joke Day! Come up with some and share!I'm not bright with jokes these days, but I'll start:"Today I ordered a chicken and an egg from Amazon...I'll let you know." :D

Have you been in a real life bereavement group?.... That might also be a good support for you... The shock of both of these losses would be devastating for those left behind
I've always thought that just going to sleep would be a wonderful way to leave this world and I still believe that however for the people left behind it's very, very hard.... Gentle hug and a blessing....xo
I think that a very important part of recovery is to allow ourselves to believe that we can overcome the loss. I have learned a new concept in this group: "new normal". My new normal involves not having my sister, mother and father as part of my life now.
They live in my memories.
The new normal does not mean that we go on as if they were never in our lives, or as if they are on a long trip and they will come home at some point.
We need to allow ourselves to enjoy the family and friends that we do have. I will never get to talk to dad about a project, what materials would be best, how to set things up, how strong it should be (we both over-engineer things!) and the like. But I can have those discussions with my children and my wife.
I think it is a process. We can start out by feeling profoundly sad all the time over our losses, but spend a small amount of time enjoying good things. (Like a pretty flower, the laughter of a child, a sunny day after a storm, things like that.) Then we can hopefully spend less time each day being sad, and more time each day enjoying things.
It is hard, but doable.
Gentle hugs
