i had to write this column.I promised my late brother that I would write it for him and myself.I had to write it because it happened when I was a little girl and Frank was very hurt.It was on a very rainy day.The rain started to pour.My friend told Joyce that he would drive her home which is something that he never did.It was just so different in 1963.Men and women just did not drive people home.Joyce lived with her widowed mother. She was a very happy go lucky girl who loved her mother and wanted to be a teacher and she did not like cars.Joyce hated to drive,so people took turns picking her up to go to work. They are car pools and this is something that we all should have.It was in January of 1963.The weather man told the people that we were going to have a bad storm and daddy came home from work early. He told my mother not to drive the car home because he didnt like to drive in the rain and daddy hated the snow just like Joyce.Joyce always would call Frank and tell him about the stuff in the store and he would buy them for mom but this is about the story. The night that it stormed everyone had to work overtime. The bosses then well they were like J.R.Ewing.It started to really snow and pour and this person who knew Frank asked to go home early and was told that if he did go home early not to come back. This is the why bosses were.He just got the car and told Frank that it was wobbly.Frank did drive the car and told him to bring it back to the dealer. They all worked until 9 o clock and the roads were starting to get full of mush. The snow was sticking and you knew it was going to be a big snow.As they were coming down the hill, something happened to the car.It started to swerve and no matter how this guy tried..he lost control and couldnt stop it.It crashed on the highway into the barrier called the New Jersey Barrier. There were 3 people in it.Joyce was killed instantly. The other person had major injuries and he did survive. He did not know what happened. He awoke at the scene and asked about Joyce. He was in the hospital for at least 1 week and when he tried to come over and make amends..he was shunned. In 1963..people were do different. He did not go to the reunions.I wanted him there because I wanted to say to him.."This was an accident. It was not your fault.Accidents do happen and the weather was horrible. Please forgive yourself".This is what I wanted to tell him and he never replied to any of my e mails. He still hasnt spoken or attended reunions.Joyces mother was never the same,,but instead of moving on and forgiving him and telling him it was an accident..well she wasnt so nice and neither were several people.I believe that there was something wrong with the car.Who knew in 1963 about bad tires or transmissions? And here is a question..Would you forget him? I have and will.He did not do anything wrong and from all of the reading that I do..this has become common now..people are being blamed for something was done or said 20 years ago..Can we forgive now? Must all of us have hate towards a person ,place or thing because some of us made a bad decision? It was a bad tire that did this.
Must we hate? Must we blame someone for something that was beyond his control? I think that the town owes him an apology. What do you think? Vader.

This was really very sweet of you to post, vader. I'm sure this person lived with so much guilt and no telling what kind of awful effect it had on the rest of his life. And even though it was just an accident I'm sure he blamed himself for what happened and probably still does. There should definitely be more forgiveness in this world because when you stop to think about it this could happen to any one of us at any time and I can't imagine living with that kind of guilt. I would surely want others to forgive me too. You have a really good heart.

So this guy does not respond to your e-mails? Are you sure he's getting them or checking that account? Could you call him, or visit, or write (on paper)? But yes, accidents happen and he should not have been shunned. It would certainly have messed up my life to deal that guilt. Good post.

To all who have responded I want to say thank you.Frank asked me before he died if I have seen or heard from him.And since 1963..none really knows. He has missed almost all of the reunions.Look,in 1963 noone thought of suing a car manufacturer for faulty brakes or tires. It just wasnt done,,but dont you think by not attending he is just afraid to face us people that he grew up with? So with this childhood friendship.I am going to let it be.Vader.
