Last December I lost my Grampy. I was the first grandchild in the family so we had a special bond. We were extremely close. He was a soccer coach and started the Burlington Youth Soccer Program back in the 60s here in Massachsuetts. He was such a caring and loving person. Up until I was 18, every morning before school my mom would drop my little sister and I off at Vavo (portuguese for grandmother) and Grampy's house to have breakfast. Grampy always had a big glass of milk and a cranberry orange muffin waiting for me. As I got older and after I graduated high school and started working fulltime I didn't see my grandparents as much. Looking back I regret not making more time for my family and I feel guilty every day that we didn't spend more time together before he passed.

Anyway, recently I started a new security job and there is this old man Frank who works here and he is the spitting image of Grampy (minus the portugese accent). Every morning he asks me if I want anything from the cafeteria. And every morning I politely decline his offer. I barely know this man and I don't want him spending his money on me.

This past Monday, without even asking me he goes to the cafeteria and buys me a cranberry orange muffin and a carton of milk and sets it down at my desk and says "I got you your favorite". I absolutely lost it. I don't remember ever telling Frank that cranberry orange muffins were my favorite, I've only worked here for a few weeks. I couldn't believe what was happening. It's kind of bittersweet working with Frank. It makes me really miss Grampy but it also makes me feel like he's here with me.
