After over 15 months the headstone is placed on the grave. It felt like it took me forever to choose one or what to say. They just called me and said it was there. I would like to know what some of you did when you finally had the headstone. Did you have unveiling? I don't know should this be something that we acknowledge?

I can't say that I have ever heard of an "unveiling" but why not? If you think people would come, plan one. For a lot of people it might feel like going to the funeral all over again. It's hard to say. Rainbow

you do what makes you feel good, your having to go thru so much, if you want this a private thing, make arrangements for babysitter and what not, or invite all who would care to attend, let people know and get their feed back, perhaps it will do some good to remember and honor him in like a memorial for him, some people like to do this, but if you want this to be a private thing, just between you and he, then go for it, you can make it a very special just for you both where you can sit and just talk, perhaps get some stuff off your chest, out of your head, i do that when i go out to my dads, its like it just floats in my head till i verbally say things and then its like another weight is off, so you do what you feel you need to do, it is all about you in this, k?

I had no say in Michael's headstone... His mother arranged everything. She told me she was taking care of it & would let me know when it was ready. She did. I don't know if they did an unveiling or not. I was at Mike's gravesite the day we buried him (April 26, 2002) and not again until late October last year. I just couldn't ... it meant acknolwdging his was gone.

when my daughter ordered by grandson's it came in special order from india. it took 16 weeks or more to get here. i think it was closer to 20 weeks. all we did once it was set was just let everyone know and they went as they were able. i know once it was set, it lifted a load of me and my daughter. hugs jan

We went to see the headstone, her father and I. We put some flowers on it. We cried. We really didn't have an "unveiling" or anything. When we got home we called other family members and invited them to go see it whenever they wanted. We will probably go again on Thanksgiving and maybe send some balloons up with messages written on them and possibly the same for Christmas. Everyone has their own traditions. Whatever you feel like doing you should do. An unveiling sounds very nice.
