Yes, very sad. It also makes me very angry.

It makes me sad and very angry too. This is ridiculous! One hates to be in violation of "gun free zones" and go ahead and carry a concealed handgun anyway, but what the hell else are we supposed to do? Walk around unarmed and hope and pray we're not among the next lambs to slaughter?

I've seen a sign that says something like "3 out of 10 homes here are protected by homeowners with hand guns. Guess which ones!"

Gun free zones are like a neon sign to criminals bent on destruction.

My guess is that either he would have just found another place, or he would have done it anyway.

Hopefully, if a few more people besides the off-duty cop were packing firearms in that nightclub, somebody would've gotten a lucky shot off and blown the killer's head off. Of course firearms and drunkenness do not mix, and this is the reason why establishments where alcohol is served are deemed gun-free zones. Plus if everyone is carrying firearms in a life-and-death situation like this, there's always a danger of righteous citizens defending themselves will be mistaken by other righteous citizens defending themselves as a killer. It could end up a total bloodbath like the OK Corrall with many more innocent people accidentally killed. There has to be some system of coordinated communication prior to people entering an establishment with a firearm.

This is tragically sad and mass-murders like this are going to keep happening. Legislators have to keep reexamining these conceal carry laws. Citizens of the world have to have the right to protect themselves and those around them from getting killed, yet be in alliance with each other like a military operation.
