And I am profoundly sorry that you need us, but given that, again I welcome you. People here understand that grieving is a very unique thing, no two people deal with loss exactly the same way.
The holidays can be extra difficult, but you recognize that, and are getting ready for it to come. Focusing on good things, like the baking and grandchildren, can be a wonderful diversion.
I read somewhere that comparison is the thief of joy. I have found that as we age we have a different outlook on death. It is possible that your mother, since she is older than you, has had the life experiences necessary to help her put death in a different context. It may not mean that she loved your father any less, or that she was stronger; it is more likely that she has more acceptance of the cycle of life.
We all have to deal with our emotions the way they are for us. The important thing is to work to understand our emotions and not let our emotions dominate us.
Gentle hugs, and again, welcome to the group!
Little things are the biggest things to miss because it didn't take much to bring us job with that person. So like you, I miss just sitting on a bench and talking with my sister, we'd do that for an hour or more and I miss the hell out of it now. I can't stand that she is gone.
Cling to your family and know you are strong. (((hugs)))
