Life will never be the same, but I think that once we accept that we can start the emotional process of re-working our lives to deal with that.
I lost my father about 4 months ago, my mom over a year ago. My mother had dementia, so I really was saying good by to her for several years. With dad it is a different story.
My wife lost her father about 30 years ago. She still misses him, but she is at the point where she can smile and think "Dad would have liked that". Right now I'm a bit like you; there are times when I want to pick up the phone and tell dad something.
Then I stop myself.
A month is a short time to deal with the loss; give yourself the time you need. Personally I find the idea of 'stages of grief' to be more harmful than good. I like the idea of 'emotions of grief'. The reason for the difference is that the word stages makes me think that I should get over things once I manage the stage. With emotions comes the idea that I will always have the emotions to deal with. But as time passes the emotions will lose their impact until I can do what my wife does and smile and think about how much dad would have loved some little thing.
