What if's is part of the grieving process. I suffered from that for a few years after my brother passed away 38 years ago from a motorcycle accident (he was 16). I often thought if he had just looked in his rear view mirror.....or had the ambulance gotten to the hospital a few minutes earlier (ppl would not pull over to let the paramedics pass).
I had to come to realize that nothing would have made a difference or at least it never can be changed.
I am diabetic and know that the damn disease has a mind of it's own. I am very good at managing it....but just this morning, the disease decided to do it's own thing. I know what I must do to try and get it back under control, but I'm sitting here feeling sorry for myself which doesn't happen to often.
Any way. knowing how this disease works, the outcome is hard to predict or control.
I'm sure you were a great caregiver which is not an easy job.....especially if the person you are caring for is a parent (I'm also a caregiver to my mom who is a diabetic and highly uncooperative).
Be kind and patient with yourself. Your loss is still fresh and it will take time to grieve.....don't rush it.
Perhaps speaking to a clergy or counselor would help ease your questions and perspective.
