New dilemma with CP bladder accident prone daughte
Hello everyone,.
It's Vanessa again with a new dilemma regarding my now 10 year old daughter. As you may have seen my precious post from last year, my daughter has Cerebral Palsy (CP) and due to this disability, she has weakend bladder control along with mobility issues.
Currently she wears a disposable diaper to bed. She's wearing MegaMax diapers from NorthShore Care. My problem is since my father is getting older and in worsening health, my family has decided on taking family trips together. Our first first trip is coming up in October. My family has rented a very large AirBnb cabin in Gatlinburg. Our entire family will be staying in this cabin together for a week long adventure.
The problem is with my daughter who wears goodnites and sometimes a diaper during the day and always a diaper at night time will be sharing a room with all the other kids coming on this trip, her cousins. My daughter is both excited and apprehensive about this. She's very embarrassed by her need to wear a diaper and her anxiety worsens around her cousin's. My husband and I have told her she can sleep in our room but she would also like to share in the experience with her cousin's by spending the nights in the kids' bedroom. Shes afraid that her diaper will become the focus of attention from her cousin's and that embarrasses her. She has regular sleepovers with some of her cousin's who know about the diapers but on this trip there will be cousin's she hardly knows. We have family flying from all over the country for this trip.
As this is a rental house we can't really risk my daughter having accidents durung the trip and ruining someone else's property. The reason why she wears a diaper at night is mainly due to her mobility problems. Not only is she not able to get up on her own and use a bathroom and toilet, we use safety rails on her bed so that she won't roll out of during the night. She is not able to negotiate operating the rails or even cannot safely make it to the bathroom by herself. She uses crutches but mostly a rolling walker and still has difficulty with that by herself. She is also not able to put on or change her own diaper. That being said she goes though a diaper change handled by someone else and also cannot get her diaper off in the morning snd waits until someone can assist her, wet and or messy.
Has anyone had a similar situation before and how did you navigate through it? As my daughter is greatly excited, I'd hate to see her feel embarrassed or ashamed on the trip.
Thanks for any ideas you may have.
Take care, Vanessa

I've just been updating my profile information because I had a birthday last week, and so I'm now 25 instead of 24. It doesn't feel any different though!Just so you all know a bit about me: I suffer with anxiety and occasional panic attacks, and sometimes I do an accidental wee in bed while I'm asleep. Now I'm a year older than this time last week I can report that nothing has changed, although...

In 2013 I had an accident resulting in spinal injury at the base of my neck with paralysis from there down, spasticity (muscle contractions and spasms) and double incontinence. Both my anus and my urethra have been left closed except with manual intervention. I hardly ever pass urine via the usual route (I have a suprapubic catheter passing directly into my bladder about 2 inches below my...

Here's one and I understand your legit concern.
What about an adaptive onesie? Target for one, does them and calls them Cat and Jack adaptive bodysuits.
The important thing here is it's a regular looking t shirt attached over a onesie of the same color, the snap part gets tucked into whatever baggy sleep shorts she uses over the diaper at night.
The untucked t shirt part looks perfectly normal and the onesie part conceals a waistband that might stick up otherwise.
Outside of concealment she's at the mercy of the distant cousins, if that starts somehow tell her to let you know and have the parents nip it right away.
I can understand how anxious some kids your daughter’s age with diapers can be with unfamiliar kids around finding out. I have an 11 year old girl who is in diapers at night as well and this is how we’ve handled these types of situations
We would and will just talk about the so called elephant in the room. First I talk to the parents and tell them about my child’s need to wear a diaper and her anxiety of having to wear them around other kids. We then have a good sit down with the parents and the kids and basically tell them about the diapers, and explain that she needs them. We also explain that we shouldn’t expect any teasing or such concerning her having to use them. But you should use pj and clothes that hide the diaper/pull-ups from being exposed. We use onesies style shirts with shorts or long night gowns but with your daughter’s mobility issue something different may be needed. And if it becomes an issue the other parents should step in. Now in my family all the cousins know if they start teasing or giving her a hard time as their aunt they’ll end up in diapers themselves. I wouldn’t let it ruin her time with family. My daughter has friends that stay over and we did the same thing with her friends by my daughter coming out and telling them up front before the sleepover, none of them has ever said anything about them of her wearing them.
I recall my own family vacation at my grandmother’s, still wearing diapers while my cousin was already potty trained.
I hope your daughter could enjoy her stay without being teased. Please give us an update.
