I'm new to this site and came here hoping for some advice as I'm at my wits end and just don't know what to do.

My son is 7yrs old and wets the bed every night. I've gone through a whole list of recommendations, Ive limiting his fluid intake before he went to bed, I've changed his diet thinking something might be triggering it, I've tried bedwetting alarms which didn't work, I've set alarms to wake me up during the night to take him to the toilet but if he hadn't already wet he would a couple of hours after putting him back to bed. I've taken him to the doctors and they couldn't find anything wrong with him and think it's something he'll probably grow out of. However, they did question me as I had similar problems growing up and think it's likely my fault as I would have passed it onto him. I was about 15 before I finally grew out of it and it could be the same for him.

Since buying him a new mattress I've put a waterproof mattress protector on it so at least the mattress is safe, but I just can't keep up with all the washing and disturbed nights. When he was a bit younger he wore pullups but they're just not enough and I cant help thinking a nappy is probably what's needed now, that's what I used to have to wear. I have spoken to him about it but he's refusing to wear one. It's not helped that my daughter, who is 5, sleeps soundly each night without wetting the bed.

Every night is disturbed and I find myself getting cross with him. I know it's not his fault, he doesn't mean to do it, it's really my fault because I gave it to him but I can't go on like this. If he's 15 like me before I stopped thats 8 more years and I can't go on like this.

What should I do? What have others done that may have helped? Should I just put him in a nappy and deal with any tantrums he has appropriately or am I being unreasonable? I'm so tired I don't know what's best anymore.

I would just explain to him that it’s not his fault. He has no control over his body when he is sleeping. Maybe tell him or show him that lots of kids his age wet the bed. I’m 16 and still wet, my little brother is 12 and does, and the 2 kids I babysit do they are 7 and 12. We all wear protection at night. It’s way better than sleeping in pee. Maybe even bribe him with a really cool toy if he will agree to wear a diaper. I think if he tries it once he will see it’s much better. How big is he? The little boy I babysit is small for his age and him mom gets him pampers size 6 and they fit him perfectly.

I would recomend to have him read the comments of other young people who suffer the same problem,on these forums,this may help him see that others have accepted diapers his age.it will help remove the stigma.

I would find the appropriate type of protection that you feel he needs & make it fun for him maybe by a bit of a bribe or surprise. Once he gets used to wearing them, then once again offer a bribe or something he enjoys if he can keep it dry all night. If he can’t, he just isn’t ready yet. Firstly it, not his fault no your fault yes it is hereditary and it will take time for him to grow out of this my son was not Dry till he was 16 going on 17 granted the Autism did contribute and well as a strong family history of both me and mom. I would just get him goodnights or sleep pants or something that will not make him feel little the goal is to help his self-esteem and minimize the stress on him and the rest of the family. There are support groups on Facebook for "Incontinence Support" is he has any Special needs there is a group of awesome parents who i work with "Special Child Family Services"

Depending on where you are located he might qualify assistance if you're in Europe it is the "NHC" i don't have much experience with them but have resources here in the US if he is on Medicaid then he might qualify for free diapers/pull-ups depending upon the state. Feel free to message me I work as a Special needs Navigator in my county as a local Homeless shelter for families and on Facebook dosing Parent to Parent support.
