I’m guessing she chose it for economic and environmental reasons. Personally, I prefer wearing disposable diapers. When I was younger, mom used to put me in cloth diapers but then she started to buy me disposable youth diapers.

Like SpongeBob , I am not a mom but a lifelong bedwetter, and went through the same transition from cloth to slip..

Now in older age [!], I use cloth again : muslin and terry folded into cotton pants, with rubber pants. These are easy to hand-wash and dry in or out of doors according to season.

With age I have less "output" and sleep more lightly thus wake more quickly when the bladder begins to release.

Strictly disposables for my girls, twins age 9. To use cloth, while environmently friendly would be just too much to wash. Plus when away from home such as trips, vacations etc. How would you like to carry used cloth diapers around if a laundry isn't available. Last thing I'd hate to do on a vacation is laundry!

LynieMarie, I do understand the use of disposables over cloth and in your case I think it works very well for you even if the girls have issues with wearing diapers to bed.
Growing up a friend of mine had a sister who was a bedwetter and back then disposables were available for the younger ones but at age 9 cloth diapers and plastic pants were what moms used on older ones which is what raised my questions about older bedwetters.

I wear cloth diapers and rubberpants at night, and disposibles during the day when I have to go out.

I know that in the past quality disposables were not available for older children. Luckily for me and for my girls, high quality youth disposable diapers are now readily available. Although my girls do have issues with still wearing diapers at 9 years old, they'd really not like the old cloth and plastic pants version.
I can see with an occasional wet night, maybe cloth diapers with plastic pants would be appropriate. They do make just cloth diapers with a moisture proof outer shell all in one. Those work decently too with light bedwetters but still require washing, obviously and also don't last long as the washing ruins the moisture proofing.

LynieMarie, I do completely understand what you're saying. After I had heard of cloth and plastic pants I too did some looking and are aware of all in ones and all in twos. I have not discussed with her why she is using cloth with plastic pants for every night wetter's. I can agree with you on using on occasional night wetters. I can also understand the issues with having diapers on for bed at older ages. To me no matter what is worn to bed so long as it keeps surrounding bed clothes and bedding dry that would seemingly be reason enough.

Short term, disposables cheaper. Long term, diapers and plastic pants. That's what I use on myself

I am not a Mom but when I started to wet the bed again as a tween. My mother was tired of washing sheets and bought disposable diapers so there was no more added laundry. Every mother has their reasons for cloth or disposable diapers. Due to the frequency of my bedwetting she decided it would be easier for her to purchase Goodnites Pull-ups and then later on Abena M3. Hope this helps.

I am now back in diapers 24/7 due to age-related issues. I wear disposable diapers with plastic pants for extra protection when I am out and about. At home and especially at night, I wear cloth diapers with plastic pants. I need really thick diapers at night because I am a very heavy wetter and wet multiple times in the night. I have never found a reliable disposable diaper for my night=time wetting. This syste3m works out well for me as disposables are pretty expensive, and I can save money using cloth diapers at home.

Cloth diapers with plastic pants are the only thing I’ve used at night, that work. I also will wet numerous times a night and am a side sleeper. I use quality disposables during the day and they work fine for that. Any disposables I’ve tried at night, especially on my side leak badly. I will sometimes get the sheets somewhat wet even with my thick cloth diapers but only because I saturate them. Plastic mattress cover is essential.

Dinny444, I do understand cloth diapers and plastic pants for bedwetters who are heavy wetters or sidesleepers but it just seemed that younger ones would be better off in a disposable pull up style pants. I do remember when growing up and pretty much the only things available for bedwetters were the cloth and plastic pants and I do remember bedwetters wearing them at later ages and needing extra padding to help keep bedding dry...

So Momplus, it could be a financial thing, or a leaking thing or maybe doing laundry is preferred over collecting bags of heavy diapers to throw away?
Maybe ask her in a non-judgmental way?

I think some folks are comfortable with using cloth and maybe hesitant to try newer things like pull-ups. Others are intimidated by all the cloth diapering choices or grossed out by dealing with them.

As an adult who is both bladder and bowel incontinent, I use disposable diapers but keep a supply of cloth diapers because right now there is a possibility of shortages. I have got close to running out of disposables and switched to my cloth diapers during the days because the cloth diapers I have aren't quite absorbent enough for my nigh time needs and even had one leak when I pooped in my sleep. The most important thing when deciding what product to use is how much is released during the time span pads can be used if there is only a little moisture or a full diaper if the bed is soaked. Most importantly it is a good idea to have this issue checked by a doctor especially if the child is drinking a lot of water or having to use the bathroom frequently as these things could be indicative of diabetes.

I did forget to mention I do use quality disposables for daytime use.
