Beating Trich Community Group
You mean that there is a name for IT? Im not weird? Trichotillomania, that big, long word that is the bane of our world. With knowledge and support of others we CAN break free and live without this disorder interfering with our lives. Lets keep this uplifting and supportive and give each other the encouragement the other needs to make it to that next day.

Hey Everyone,
New to this group and so glad I found it! Today is day one of a pull free extravaganza! I cut my hair short this week so I don't pull and it's growing back thick but crazy pixie short.
I am making a dedicated effort to not pull and find new ways to keep my hands away from my head. It's scary to have hair this short but I have clip in extensions and hats to help me cover it up until it grows out a little more. I am so, so sick of pulling my hair out and this stupid cycle that I needed to to something drastic.
Here's my trich story: Started pulling in the 2nd grade, I am 41 now.
My older sister pulls her hair but not as bad as me, she has long gorgeous blonde hair (she's 43) and it runs in our family and starts early. We just started talking about it recently.
I had track extensions for two years (sewn in tight braids) and it did crazy damage. When they came out, I had massive damage and terrible bald spots. I had periods of when I had long hair, but few and far between. The more stressful my life gets, the balder I get.
It's taken me 3 years to grow out the damaged hairs from the track extension bald spots I had earlier, but I keep pulling and wanted to start fresh because I had a bald spot on my top crown again.
Meds have helped me tremendously, but when I went off them I pulled a lot out. I'm on Celexa 10mg and Wellbutrin 150 which has been a really good combo for me to not pull, but when I get super stressed, I still pull and go into a pulling trance when I'm in bed or watching tv.
Also, I found that a dermaroller needle thing (bought on Amazon for $15) has really helped grow in the areas at the temples where the extensions had ripped out big bald spots.
It's really helped repair the damaged follicle areas, but it's taken three years for it all to start growing back in normally, it's still white, but I cut it short so now it'll all grow in the same texture. I do have a lot of kinky white hairs that are coming in straight again; but it's definitely a long process.
The clip ins really help and make you feel pretty and like you have hair again. it's fun to have long bangs and then take them off when you want to relax.

Hello- I am new to the group
-
My therapist really knocked some sense into me last Friday about my spending. She said that there are needs and there are wants. She said that there is always going to be cheap stuff to buy, but do I need it? The answer is mostly "no". So today, I am taking back some things that I bought online at Kohl's, namely a 9 x 12 rug and a quilt for my bed. I also bought sheets that I don't need...
One thing I try when I'm in bed and/or watching tv is to do something physical with the hands. I crochet, some people knit, other people doodle, and keeping the hands active gives you a distraction from the usual pattern.
Hurrah for finding a medicine that helps with stress!
Best wishes and welcome!
Yep, trich is super frustrating. I'm definitely feeling that at the moment too.
This group helps, definitely.
