I have known this man for a couple years and we took our time getting to know each other and last Fall I decided to move in with him. I haven't lived with anyone but family for over 20 years btw. I thought things were going ok and I thought I would be ok adjusting since he was a truck driver and gone most of the time. He mentioned he had trust issues and I of course also have trust issues, hence the reason I don't get into many relationships and don't usually live with other people. In the very beginning I was open and up front with him, he already knew my past, just a couple fwb situations over the years since i didn't want random men in and out of my daughter's life, so I never let anyone close. I went away about a month after I moved in and he found an old cell phone I had lying around and went through everything in it, email, old texts, whatever he could find. Then before my return home he sent me a message that he doesn't like being lied to. When I came home I just stayed calm and kept to myself. I didn't really know how to act or react for that matter. He basically took everything he found and held it against me even though it all happened prior to us being together or even living together. I felt very betrayed. I immediately lost whatever trust I did have in him and continued to as I kept finding out other things he had done while on my social media and email, etc. He told me he knew what he did wasn't right but he needed to make sure he could trust me and he also just thought I might get "a little pissed off" and then I'd be fine. Well I tried to get over it and I always felt like he was looking over my shoulder and got even more secretive than he already thought I was. Well over the past couple months he just got so controlling, where are you, what are you doing, when will you be home, etc. All things he thought were fine because he claimed he was just checking on me but it was just the way he would ask that seemed like he was always accusing me of something. He talked to me on the phone on my way to work, on my way home, after I got home and before bed and sometimes when I woke up. I can't imagine how I could be doing anything wrong with him checking on me all these times but he still would always sound like he was accusing me of something. Well we got into a big argument one night, I told him I didn't want to be in a relationship with him anymore and live like this. I was angry and i stormed out of the house and didn't come home. He also left because he didn't want to be there when I came home. It was a mess. I ended up getting drunk and stayed at a local hotel. He had no idea when I came home and was gone back on the road anyway. I started looking for a place to move to and while I was packing and cleaning things I found a video camera hidden in our bedroom. I was beyond livid. He had been listening and that was how he knew where I was moving to among other things. I was beyond betrayed now and even though I knew I had to leave I still felt bad. He still makes me feel like I was the only person that did something wrong. I don't think anything he did was right. I just am having a hard time letting go. My friends and family don't really know everything that has happened but have been very supportive but I'm just not really sure how to let it all go. I'm sure it's normal after s breakup to be upset but I just can't seem to let go. Any tips? Is what he did normal? I am scared and alone now but I keep telling myself it's for the right reasons.
