Back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek medical care. In fact, about 3 in 4 adults will experience back pain during their lifetime! The term back pain includes pain affecting the neck, midback and low back. Acute back pain may begin suddenly with intense pain but typically lasts fewer than three months. With the ice (use it ONLY 20 minutes at a time) you can alternate it with heat, using a heating pad 20 minutes at a time. Do not use either of these any longer, or you'll be jeopardizing what you're trying to accomplish. This I was told by rehab. after surgery.
If the pain is severe, you're actually hurting yourself by NOT taking medication. We tense up when we're in severe pain (or ANY PAIN for that matter) and when the body tenses, we're more apt to injure ourselves including our backs because the muscles are trying to protect the area. If we take meds, the body is "loose" as it should be and less likely to be injured.
Just food for thought. Best of luck.
I have been using an inversion table for over 5 years and cannot thank this machine/device enough from saving me from having a fusion....it is spinal traction and basically a 100 to 200 years ago the greeks used to hang you upside down with a rope to stretch and ELONGATE the spine- basically as the discs flatten like tyres throughout the day as we stand and gravity is pusshing down on them...the deflate...ten mins twice a day both front ways and back..put a towel behind your lower back and neck when lying on it and it makes some difference- my osteo told me to do that- cus the natural position of the spine is the S shape....
it is also been found to be good for lymphatic drainage and also studies have found that it is good for depression and pushing the internal organs back into their natural place- for 20 mins a day- when i get up in the morning i am SO STIFF- this machine has given me a beyyer quality of life for my back injury....and there is a pose in yoga where u lay up against the wall with your neck on the ground and your body up against the wall....the machine does the same thing....
also ultraound is unreal for back pain relief- you can buy a proper one with the 1 and 3mhz spec on it and do a two day course on it and save yourself a fortune from sports therapists...i have just bought one online- going to do a course next week on it- will save me 100 dollars a week...
hope this is of some help
good luck
