Hi all,
Surely there are some others in this group who have done something awful to their sacrum and broken it! I did just that a couple weeks back, landed hard on the pavement and it's been not a lot of fun since (pinched nerves, excruciating pain, leg not working, sketchy weight bearing).
What was your road to recovery like? How long? When did you start exercising and weight bearing again? What kinds of exercises were you able to do that didn't involve your sacrum?
I've got a double whammy here in that I've got scoliosis as well, so not exercising my back until the bone is healed isn't an option. I also can't just stop working, I'm the GM at a dog kennel. Thankfully I had banked overtime but I have to get back to full time work very soon! Mostly for my sanity's sake, but I'm looking forward to being able to walk again soon, I hope.
I'm addicted to ice packs. Every evening, when it's time to relax, I throw a hoodie on backwards and slip an ice pack into the pouch. I get giddy just thinking about it.
I've already come to terms that my skiing season is over and jogging seems like it'll never happen again. Help!

I too think Ice Pacs are Heaven sent! I hope you take it easy and recover fully. Please give yourself all the kindness and care you need and deserve!!!!
The nerves affected are sciatic and pudendal, which if you do your homework, are a heckuva pair. It's the left side of the sacrum where it meets the hip bone that's fractured. Doctor said there isn't much to be done about the nerves until the fracture's healed (the sciatic nerve didn't get angry until almost 2 weeks after the fall, from my weird limp).
I actually didn't think of seeing a doctor until I was talking to my cousin, who is a nurse practitioner. She told me there were a lot of red flags and that I should go see a doctor, which I did a week after the accident. I generally stay away from doctors, just in case someone else needs that appointment more than I do.
Had a follow up yesterday. Sacrum's healing really well and is not an issue anymore. Had a CT scan done, and the doctor didn't want to comment on it because he's not a specialist. He said I had several bulging and/or ruptured discs and that he made me an appointment ASAP with a spinal surgeon.
Gonna go from here! Not sure if I'll have any say whether or not I get surgery because of the two pinched nerves (and I still don't know exactly how bad it is).
Lidoderm patches, and toradal are a godsend for me.
