wow so true on what you have written,thanks it is a good reminder and it does help knowing its ok to not forget.As long as we can live while we do.

I have lost my Dad to suicide but the same grief rules apply. I have learned that grief is now just a part of our lives, and a part of us. Over the past year I have definately gone through the grief cycle and just got to acceptance. I also had a boss who several months back told me I needed to "get over what I was going through", such a uncompassionate person. I think its important for everyone to learn about grief even if they are not experiencing it, they will never know the real feeling of it until they experience it but maybe it would at least lend a few pointers like not being so insensitive :/

I think "You'll get over it" is not as heartless as it sounds, it's just that most people don't know how to express what they mean. I think they mean well.

I think when people outside your family say "Get over it" there are tons of things being said. One...suicide is so taboo to most people...they don't want to think about it. It's unpleasant. So it would be better for them if they didn't have to see you feeling bad because of it. That's the first thing, and the second thing is...there isn't anything effective they can say to really make you feel better. The situation puts the other person (whoever they may be) in the hopeless situation of thinking of something to say.

When you run into the people that fancy themselves 'problem solvers', you getting over it would solve everything. Their problem and yours.

So I'm not really good at letting people off of the hook for saying ignorant things. They'll never learn if someone doesn't say something to them.
