I would let the dr know that the meds isn't helping..I know they like to say to give them time-but geez it's a Friday what are you suppose to do huh

I would definitely be calling the Dr & letting them know how severe your pain is. In the mean time dont forget to put heat rub on where you can too.

The reason they are hesitant to give out heavy drugs are because of the addicts and the Fed. Gov. breathing down both the Dr's and Pharma's back because of addicts. The addicts have ruined it for those of us in real pain .Heck they put me on Naproxen 20 yrs ago for menstrual cramps. They are in the same category as ibuprofen they are NSAID's. A lot of Docs are going to Ultram(tramadol) lately, hoping that it's not as addictive, but be careful it is.
How long have you been going to the Doc. they have to really know and trust you nowadays.

for some reason he wouldn't prescribe hydrocodone because I had wrote down that I had a sensitivity to Darvocet which has been off the market for years. I was NOT allergic to it nor had any doctor confirmed that I was, yet the nurse told me that hydrocodone was in the same category and since I wrote down Darvocet, that's why the dr. wouldn't prescribe it.

I've been given hydrocodone dozens of times, and more recently, by my dentist who extracted two teeth. I don't know why this doctor is so leery of prescribing it. They did call in Tramadol, which has done absolutely nothing but make me lightheaded and dizzy and did squat for the pain. I called again this am and explained that I wanted Darvocet crossed off my chart as I had voluntarily written that down that I did not like it, not that I was allergic to it and to please prescribe something stronger than Tramadol.

PS come to find out, it was a fracture and not a sprain, as my doctor showed it to the radiologist, no wonder it hurts so much.

I got cold chills when I read your post.... I have lived in that horrifying emotional space...... hopeless

So out of sheer desperation, trying anything short of going under the knife, I reluctantly tried PEMF. I compared several of the systems a few months ago on this discussion group.

Basically I think some of them do work pretty well. Some are astonishingly good, and some are just garbage. I think the ones that work are based on the original research done at NASA about 20 years ago by a person named Robert Dennis PhD. You can find him on the internet, you tube, and he owns a company called Micro-Pulse that makes several of the popular PEMF systems you can buy on the internet.

Honestly his web page is a bit ghetto, and the products are very simple, not a lot of bells and whistles, but may be that's a good thing for a mad scientist kind of device. Not a lot of marketing polish and shine. But any of the PEMF systems based on his research really do seem to work.

You can go High Dollar and spend $30K on a MagnaWave, or you could go cheap and portable with a micro-pulse or allevawave. I don't know if any other portable PEMF systems use his technology. It is easy to find now though, just look for "ICES", that's the one I think works best.

Look around for the best price though, lots of variability in price on the internet.

One thing I recently discovered is that if you contact www.micro-pulse.com and ask for their discount code, they will just give it to you. My dad got $100 off. Not sure if they still do this but might be worth asking. In fact, to be fair across the board since what you really want is the best value for your money is ask all of them for a discount. Go with the best price as long as it says ICES.

I wrote all about this a few months ago, but just to summarize: my experience was with very severe back pain, crippling and getting worse. I was scared and losing hope. When I tried the allevawave (one brand of ICES technology) the pain resolved itself very quickly. But I needed treatment every day for a good long while. But now I'm off meds, no more chiro, no more physio, basically pain free.

I searched around and finally talked to the inventor (Dr. Bob Dennis). He seems for real, and you can hear him on a lot of interviews online. A lot of bloggers are picking up on it lately too. Normally I'd think it was just a fad, but hey, it worked for me really well so, fwiw I thinks its legit.

you are saying now that you have a fracture and the doc won't prescribe pain meds? ( and if I'm not mistaken, Darvocet is nowhere close to Hydrocodone and not even a narcotic.. I could be wrong.)

I had major back surgery on Oct 1, 2013.. spinal fusion on my L5, S-1.. I literally had no disc between the two vertebrae and I also had severe arthtitis and bone spurs...... nightmare recovery to say the least.. He took bone from my hip along with cadaver bone to open the space and then put 4 screws in ....

I am still on pain meds ( low dose now ) but I know I am one of the lucky ones.. the laws changed in my state last October.. pain in the ass, but I know that the doctor shopping drug addicts made things really hard for those of us who legitimately need the pain meds.. and its not fair.. but it's life. I have a very compassionate surgeon who knows I've never abused my pain meds and when it's time to wean me off of them he will ( I hope soon )...

I just hate it for those of you who are in LEGITIMATE pain have docs who won't prescribe them . That just sucks in my opinion.

Docs know when their patients are abusing pain meds.. There's a national registry now that all they have to do is pull up on the web to see what meds you are taking.
