right after my ski accident, i was talking about 4 to 6 caplets a day. i\'ve heard that doing doses that high can cause liver problems. is that true? how much and how long of use would be considered risky?

That\'s exactly why I don\'t take any \'funny\' kind of meds. When Tylenol 1st came out I heard things about it (liver problems)and never wanted to take it. LOL, doesn\'t help anyway. Most stuff doesn\'t. Just good ol\' asprin. However with the problems it causes, have to be careful with that too. Ulcers, you know!
Personaly I don\'t like taking anything due to liver damage but what\'s the alternative? Can you tolerate the pain?
I would like to know if anyone has an opinion about taking Rimadyl. And at what dosage?
I\'d like to try it but don\'t know how much. I have a few tabs that are 25 mg. each. Have heard they too can cause damage. Bleeding I think. Not sure. \'My doctor\' said she\'s only had two patients who had a problem with it.
The pharmacist I talked to gave me the impression it wasn\'t a problem for someone like me to take it but he wouldn\'t, understandably, commit to saying I could nor did he know the dosage.

My Dr. put me on 800mg of Ibuprofen 3 times a day for my back pain and it has helped. Pharmacists told me I could buy otc Ibuprofen and take that instead of getting perscription filled. It has really helped me deal with my back problems.

I also take Ibuprofen for my back pain and just about every other kind of pain I have. Doc told me I could take 800 mgs, too, at a time. I, too, take the over the counter stuff. Lots cheaper. I have gotten to where i have taken it with my percocet and that really helped, BUT, doc says that's a big no-no! Darn it, it sure helped a lot.

Ibuprofen is a standby in our house. Both my husband and I have chronic back pain issues. It works more for my husband than me.

Even prescription strength, 800 mg, does not cover my pain. Because of that, I may have a tendacy to overlap the pills a bit. Like, take them 6 hours a part instead of 8 hours. I think I need an upgrade in meds, but I am reluctant to get into narcotics.

Only 3 - 800mg are recomended per 24 hour period because it can lead to complications later in life, is what my pharmacist told me, and they cannot be taken with any other over the counter medication like Tylenol or Aleve.

I've tried this in the past and other OTC's like this and having fibro as well as migraines and seizures and IBS and and and...it's like putting a band-aide on cancer!

The docter gave me some Ibuprofen but it didn't work I still have pain in my lower back.

hi.i was given ibuprofen while awaiting a hysterectomy for fibroids.i was in tremendous pain.not just with the fibroids,but also with a crumbling spine,fibromyalgia,and reumatism in my spine.my gp at the time,put me on large doses of ibuprofen.after a week,and feeling extremely ill,i returned only to be told with the amount of pain i was in,that this was the best pain reliever i could take,and my doseage was increaased.after another two days,i could just about get to the bathroom,where i was very sick,noticed on peering in the mirror that i had turned very yellow,had a rash on most of my body,and could just crawl to the phone for help.when the dr came,he insisted it was a bad infection i had picked up.personaally,without exaggeration i felt like i was dying.i lost two stone in weight,couldnt keep anything but small sips of water down,and eventually after being severely ill for nearly 6 wks,and them trying every antibiotic on the market,to cure me of an infection i hadnt got,a dr in the surgery said after alot of tests,that i had had an extreme reaction to ibuprofen,and if i had carried on taking it,i probably wouldnt be here.now adays,i have a red band on all my drs files,to warn of an allergy to this potent drug.If,i have surgery i also have to wear a band as it is often used in sedation during surgery.i,obviously have very strong feelings on this drug,and feel patients should be made more aware of the possible dangers.it mostly affects people allergic to aspirin related drugs.I,now check out eeevery drug im prescribed for traces of it.i think it should carry a warning on the packet.
