Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.
As far as the pitocin, it is a drug that they give you to induce labor. It brings the contractions on. It was kind of interesting having been induced twice. My first and third child were induced, while my 2nd was not. The intensity of the contractions I felt only at the end of my delivery w/o pitocin was how I felt all the way through with the two deliveries I was induced with it.
I also had a boy in daycare who I know now was autistic, he was not diagnosed as so then, I learned a lot from him. He was dumped on me with out any help and he couldn't talk. Had a huge list of problems, he was a foster child.
I know God does not give us more than we can handle and I know I can take anything he can dish out but I really wish He didn't trust me so much sometimes. I am truly glad that he did trust me with my children I wouldn't have it any other way.
I have unfortunately run into people who do not understand and want to voice there opinions on my child or how theirs are not like that and they no how to behave better than that.
I took Zach to an eye dr to check his eyes because he was crying all the time an banging his head and we thought maybe he was having headaches, we knew it wasn't his neck, dad's a chiro.
Any way he started crying and screaming like a terrified animal and wouldn't go back into the exam room, he ran for the front door and the dr caught him trying to make him go back there. I had previosly explained autism to this guy and he said he understood and would give it a try. He obviosly did not understand. I wanted to scream at him "take your hands of my child" I did not of course. Then as I was saying forget it he is not going to do it, the guy had the nerve to look at me and say "have you ever tried discipline" I looked at him dumb founded, I said" it is not a discipline problem He is autistic he doesn't understand what you wanted him to do and he is scared. I and walked out the door with Zach still sobbing and very upset. I was so upset myself. We have always gone to this dr and he is just across the street from my dh's office. I wish I could have said more to him but being in a small town and having to watch our reputation to not hurt business my hands are really tied. I have told several of my friends and family who were going to him. I won't go back and neither will my dh. It will never cease to amaze me at how inconsiderate people can be.
My husband laughed at me the other day when I said we really need someone more like a veterinarian than a pediatrician. A vet can look at an animal and tell you by how they look and what you tell them what is wrong with the animal. But a doc wants to know from the child what is wrong. maybe we should find a way to create a new doctorate program where they go through vet school and then on to med school or somehow combine the two. Just a weird thought. Frustrated with docs right now. For lots of reason other than Zach's issues.
