well, with the holidays, one thing you can do is request that someone go over his schedule each morning if there are any changes to a routine. I have found that most of my son's problems emulate from that.

now, i rarely spank and it has to be only after i have exhausted everything else. it just does not work. my son is ten so i start by taking away his computer. If he is good the next day, he can have it back. i also have him draw a card and apologize to the other child since my child has a hard time saying i'm sorry.

we also do a role reversal where we role play the situation with him being the person he hit, kick. i don't actually do those things but i explain to him what has happened and we go over how that makes the other person feel and then act out scenerios of wrong choice right choice.

it seems to do the trick. hope this helps hun.

I agree with sambod, a visual aid schedual would be a great asset for your son. Also, have they come up with a behavior plan for you child. What also worked with my child was visual aids that showed to be calm and once calm then he could return to what he was working on. Also, social stories are great. The social worker at your school should know about these. The social stories are great and showthem that when they are high stress what they should do and what they should not do...each story can give specifics so they can relate. And they place pictures of children for instance, biting or pulling hair and show that is not good and then they show the good behavior that is desired. It's really great cause it's not all coming from you and they usually give you a copy for home. Works great!

Hi, yes the holidays are hard on us too! Spanking does not work with Stephen. Don't forget your child is only 6! Our children that are older still have a hard time and probably always will. Stephen had a School Calender on his wall. It shows the letter days and all the activities going on for that day, we look at it every night and the next morning before school. Also, we have a very good Sensory Diet in place at school. He has 4 sensory diet breaks a day. They are extremely specific to what he needs (input or output). We worked very hard to get this, finally we had a speacialist to an evaluation. We also have a Para in the classroom who constantly reminds Stephen of the consequences of his actions. It's been really hard with us too, just hang in there! Also, I would strongly suggest the School Calender and the Sensory Diet. Oh, also what about planning some fun things nah likes to do on the half days? Maybe the social worker can explain why the routine is so disrupted to noah.Alicia
