hi all,

Since I have been diagnosed with an ASD (Aspergers) my parents havent given the support or the encouragement I need to help me with my ASD its like they cant handle it, feels like they aren't in the real world to be honnest its like when i go for advice they just burry their heads in the sand or they try to be negative or controlling which is going hinder me plus i need to move forward with my life and get the most out of it plus I think my dad suffers with aspergers aswell but he hasnt been diagnosied plus i dont want to be set up to fail either because I dont want to go backwards into my shell

You said it that they do not understand.... period. I know that sometimes you need to find support where it is available, and if they are acting like ostrich, you need to accept and move on, even though that may be ver har and certainly not fair or right, it is your option and the most productive thing.
Just know all sorts of kids have parents that don't get it, so you are not alone in that regard. You are lucky enough to be smart, so go where you can get someone to help and just accept it. You will be less frustrated and in the long run, you will be better off. They are that way and there is nothing anyone can do, unless they want to understand how to help, and you do not need them to make things worse. Look to where you find happiness and continue going that way. If you find frustration, go the opposite direction, and do not look back. Accept what they can offer if it helps, and if they are not willing to be financially or emotionally supportive, you need to get out of the nest and fly. It is time and you can do it!

I didn't get support from many people when it came to ASD. I got support for the symptoms, but not ASD as what it was. I reached out and found other more supportive support groups, and have done a lot of work on myself discovering my own likes and dislikes, ups and downs, and how to handle myself. I've also been lucky to run into supportive environments and situations. If your parents can't be supportive or aren't there, reach out to others maybe?
