I dont know the answer but I know the possibility increases obviously if same father same mom produces the child, you probably kno that!Good luck xxx

Well, both of my boys are on the spectrum. Like Olismom said at least you know the signs now. Try not and worry about it now and just enjoy being pregnant. Eat a lot! Hugs Denise

I've actually read that the likelihood of having subsequent children with ASD is 33%. That increases if the child is a boy.

You're already pregnant, there's nothing you an do about it now. If God gives you another ASD child, then there's a reason. You're obviously an angel to be given a special child to raise. At least now, you should know how to protect this second child from the aspects of the world that harm our children. Ya know? Minimize allergy exposure, minimize toxin exposure, minimize antibiotic use - build a healthy immune system...all those great things. Use everything you've learned from your first child. Everything will be fine.

Thanks for the input ladies. I had heard it's more likely to have another ASD child if it's a boy...I'm willing to go through it all again. Like many of you said I know what to look for now.

i have a 8 yr old boy with pdd/nos and a 4 yr old girl that is normal. i feel she has helped him tremendously. she makes him respond back to her and is relentless about it.his big difficulty is socialization skills. she has been a blessing for him. good luck to you

kathylynn, Exactly! ASD 6 year old boy and a 2 1/2 NT Girl, who also forces her brother to interact as well, she looks after him, scolds him, tells him what to do, tattle's on him when he's up to no good - a little mommy and security guard at 2 1/2! Truely a GODSEND!

There is a book about the unsung hero's of sibling to ASD kids. Sean Barron writes about the relationship with his sister in his books. My older son is a great big brother. It's hard either way but theya er great kids and we know from each other they have great potential !

I have one child - boy - on the spectrum and one girl not. It's great to see them together. He has some socialization issues but she really encourages him. Good luck with your pregnancy!

I have two boys who are on the ASD spectrum. As others have mentioned, the odds increas if you have one child who has ASD but that doesn't mean it is inevitable. I understand your concerns. I hope for the best for you and your family. Take each day one step at a time and realize the odds are still in your favor. I'm sure you will have a wonderful child.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I have an ex husband with almost certain ASS (asperger). Our 2 sons have the diagnosis, so... Yes, it may be possible. It doesn;t have to happen and remember: you walked a long hard road, but you have more experience now! Big hug from The Netherlands!

I have an 8 year old NT daughter and a 6 year old PDD NOS son. My daughter has been a huge help with my son. He has socialization issues and I think they would be much worse if it wasn't for her. My husband and I joke that she is his full time play therapist! Good luck. I'm sure you will do great!
