Autism / Autism Spectrum Support Group
Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.

I'm just starting to put my son on a GFCF diet, and I'm seeking advice from people who have already done this. I've found a couple pretty good websites that sell GFCF food items and a local grocery store has quite a bit in their health food section. So I pretty much know where to get the food (any more suggestions would still be appreciated). What I'm asking for are your experiences with this diet and what I may expect from putting my son on it. What was easy about it? What was the most difficult thing about it? How did you transition your child to this diet? I want to do what's best for my son. I love him too much to do any less, and any advice and help any of you could give would be appreciated more than you know. Thanks.

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
I know the diet can be very overwhelming at first (my brain wanted to explode!) but now that we are used to it, it has really been worth it. It is not a magic cure, but it can help tremendously. I highly recommend the book Special Diets for Special Kids by Lisa Lewis, and Unraveling the Mystery of Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder by Karen Seroussi. The are excellent books and put things in layman's terms. If you have any more questions free free to email me. I hope this helps!
