Well information is power. I am sorry that your child dx was a year ago, but she is still young and intervention has great potential. In general a initial interview and running of tests can be at least $500 or so, depending on the individual case. Then the treatments and all start adding up, and the diet products are a bit more costly, but many kids see improvement. It is all individual and the trick is to find a program that works for your kid.

I contacted a DAN doctor in my area, and it wasn't cheap- and they don't accept insurance. They charge $565 for just the consultation, but give you a receipt to send to your insurance company in case they might reimburse you for it. But this is just to give you an idea of it- I'm not sure what a DAN doctor in your area might cost.
If you can afford it, go for it. I say any chance at improvement is worth it!

Well, finding a DAN! doctor is a very good idea. They treat all the aspects of autism from the heavy metal poisoning, to leaky gut, build up of candida (yeast). Yes, autism manifests socially and behaviorally, but it has alot of medical aspects that could involve things that seem unrelated,such as allergies and asthma. However, many don't accept anykind of insurence due to the methods that they have to use to treat our kids. Alot of what they do is trial and error. Some of their methods and drugs that they have to use are experimental. That's not to say that they are using our kids as guinea pigs, but the spectrum doesn't make it easy to do scientific research as all of our kids are different. What you can do is find on in your area, and this will be hard! Give them a call and ask their prices. See if you need a referral, and call your insurence to see if they will reimburse you for any part of what you have to pay out. Start saving now for it because it costs!!! They will want to see your child at least on a monthly basis to keep an eye on any of the drugs that he may be put on. Some of them have to have their level monitored closely due to a build up of tolerance. The Autiam Clinic that i found is in Northern Ny State. The first visit is $500. Then monthly visits are $175. I had to have a huge list of blood work completed and a full allergy work up with tests done to see where my son's immune system was. The doctor of this clinic travels all the way from Texas once a month to treat Autistic children here in NY. Another thing you can try for is SSI but that is income based. Just keep your ear out for anything that can help. even if you only get a small refund from your insurence maybe it will cover your gas or at least be put in the bank for future visits. Good Luck! I took my son to a doctor who bases his practice from the DAN! protocol, and it wasn't cheap. The appt., first set of tests, and various supplements ran about $750-$800. The best thing you can do is to do some research. I had it down to three different doctors an finally relied on my gut instinct, and it has worked out wonderfully. We have had my son on his biomedical treatment for barely a week, and I've already seen great improvements. I guess what you could do is to figure out how much you are willing and/or willing to spend and do some calling around to different doctors and ask questions. They're usually willing to answer them. What ever you choose, I would recommend going to an actual M.D. Good Luck.
