HI everyone! I am the mother of an amazing 11 year old boy. He has been diagnosed with ADHD but I believe that he actually has Asperger's. We had him tested when he was three but it was a little too early at that point and he wasn't too keen on doing the tests. Some of the reasons that I believe he has this are:
-Doesn't like eye contact
-Delayed speech when he was younger
-Awkward in social settings
-Doesn't pick up on things like sarcasm or other people's emotions easily
-Obsession with one thing for a short period of time, then a full-blown obsession with something else
-Extremely emotional, has outbursts at the drop of a hat
-Interrupts others while they are talking
-Acts slightly immature for his age, gets along better with kids who are a few years younger than him
I also feel like I have Asperger's as I experience all of the same things, especially the obsession with one thing and then moving to the next. I have been trying to find a place to get a diagnosis and testing for my son however it seems next to impossible. The school he was in for 5th grade was no help whatsoever. His doctor referred me to a few places but they all had extremely high intake costs and were not covered under insurance.
I guess my biggest question is...how do I go about getting a diagnosis, at least for my son, that isn't going to cost me a ton of money?? The cheapest I could find around here is $250 and that is just for the intake appointment. Anything after that is $500 per appointment. I just can't afford that. You would think that they would work through the schools to make sure that they can get children the help that they need but so far that has been a dead end.
I made it to the end of the semester's classes and went to the doctor to find out I'm sicker than I thought I was. Respiratory infection, the trifecta: sinusitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, the whole thing, headed toward walking pneumonia. So I got antibiotics, steroids, a ton of medicine that knocked me out for the rest of the day yesterday and through the feverish night. My choice to live...
Ads on most internet sites are determined by what you look up. At this time of year, if you're looking for wool socks for your kids for Christmas...you'll end up with sock ads all over the place. (Calvin Klein clothes...fit my stick skinny son very well...the ads are a bit too sexy for my tastes though...especially with my 15 year old daughter at my shoulder so much of the time.)To get around...
