Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.
I'm a high-functioning adult on the autism spectrum. After long years of struggling with almost all types of human relations, I've gotten much better at social interaction. But sometimes I have interactions that are terribly awkward, in which I can't seem to find any connection with the other person and feel flailing.
Recently, this has been happening in business-related interactions. People aren't calling back and don't seem to want to interact with me. I can't seem to get anywhere trying to encourage people to hire me (I'm a freelancer) or, it seems, even get them to understand that's what I'm asking for.
Have you experienced particular types of problems in business communication? Also, do you sometimes feel that you "revert" or "relapse" by losing coping skills that you've developed and struggling the way you once did years ago? If so, how did you deal with it?

I think that I have many "awkward" interactions. I think that I need to write out what I want to communicate, and it seems that I still do not have success completely communicating. I find that I need to find what works and then move in that direction.
What kind of business are you in? Is there a mentor that can give you feedback in your industry? Do you have friends that can help you develop your portfolio and or resume? Interviewing is strange. I remember that I had issues early in my career, and when things flowed it seemed that it was as they say, when it rains it pours.
