I am 31 years old and had been diagnosed with Asperger's (age 23).

I know my body and what triggers my behavior, thus I believe it is SCD + ADHD. When I participated in a study, my responses to a questionaire showed I was not autistic, however they felt I might perseverate and thus ASD cannot quite yet be ruled out. I really think that is caused by restlessness from moderate to severe ADHD.

Medication had worked very welll. My problems when I did start to speak and read at age 4 were more related to not adjusting the conversation to the context and really being out in left field like I am today. I had a very large vocabulary since I listened well my first few years but not to anything specific. But applying that language to practical situations and understanding idioms was very difficult for me. In 6th grade, I was functioning at a kindergarten level when it came to idiomatic expression and thus know that's only one example of it being a severe form of SCD or language issue and not a mild form of autism.

I am an accountant and I have a fiance. I have made friends for the first time in nearly 20 years. I am starting to learn things intuitively. I was kept isolated by many adults as a kid and thus might appear autistic but never had that developmentally. I really struggle with limiting my interaction to a select group of people at a party which would assist in making friends. I believe my problems are processing and pragmatic related rather than specifically tied to behaviors (other than ADHD) or obsessions (which I really never had any). My best friends have had PDD-NOS and some have had Turner Syndrome (TS).

I have difficulties with auditory and visual processing. I do impulsively interrupt and sometimes monopolize the conversation when I cannot organize my thoughts. I do well only with criticism and feedback that I understand. I do poorly with criticism that I don't understand.

I need some help. I have really been bothered by this for about 5+ months now and I really need a shoulder to lean on. My fiance just doesn't seem to understand though she tries. I was really happy when I was at the TS conference since I felt right at home. Everyone talked loud and those with a moderate to severe NLD felt like I was just like them. We attended career and life workshops that were cool and practical. I learned a lot about myself and my partner (well more my partner's friends since her NLD is extremely mild). I think her ADHD inattentiveness is actually worse than her NLD.

Thanks in advance for all your help. I hope I can get some feedback. Because of trying to adopt a child because of my fiance's TS and wanting to provide a loving home, I really worry about how my ASD diagnosis could be a real hinderance. There are other legal concerns as well that don't apply to SCD that are unique to living in Maryland. Have a great week!
