Autism is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder which manifests itself in markedly abnormal social interaction, communication ability, patterns of interests, and patterns of behavior. Although the specific etiology of autism is unknown, many researchers suspect that autism results from genetically mediated vulnerabilities to environmental triggers.
I have custody of 2 grandsons the oldest of which has alot of problems.I have alot of expeirence[sp]with both autism and SID[nephew with autism and neice with SID]AND I have suspected from early on that Jose'[now 2] might have both.From early age he would take strands of hair,strings or any thing like that and run it across his tounge.He refused to eat certain foods,loved some materials and would freak out with others,and would go to peices over loud noises.
Now things are changing for the worse.Before brushing and deep massage would calm him now it doesn't.Aweek ago our EI person brought oatmeal with her and let him play in it,he actualy started drooling by the time she had to leave his shirt was soaked.Now I HAVE BOUGHT UP ALOT OF OATmeal and let him play in it if he gets real bad,which is pretty often,but he gets board easy and I am having a hard time keeping up.
He has alot of horrible meltdowns.He will get on hands and knees and crawl while rubbing his forehead across the floor and ends up with carpet burns.The EI person said she thought had to do with SID and I do too.Has anyone seen or heard of this?
He doesn't sleep very well at night,he will start screeming and not even be awake and I literaly have to lay on him to get him to calm down and back to sleep.The dr said if this gets worse he can give him sedatives but I really don't wont to start that but I am exalted and don't know what else to do.
If any one has any ideas on how to help my baby please help me.I am about to my wits end.

Does sound like SID, sleep is a big thing with my daughter as well we have found if she sleeps on the floor she will sleep better. And you laying on him says he needs heavy pressure, so if you have a heavy comfortor lay that on him when he goes to bed it will give him the pressure he needs.

Also, consider a hammock or airwalker swing for sleeping.
