Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

weight lifting

it is interesting that I e mailed my doc who is an EP regarding lifting weights.
instead of e mailing me a detail ans,he had his nirse call me the following .
that i should not stree my self but use weights only to tone ! so when i asked the nurse what does this mean she said that he is not in but that is exactly what he said .

so any one here can explain me what realy does it mean .

I would guess he means don't push yourself to the point of panting/sweating/rapid heartbeats that could potentially push your heart into Afib?

I love going on the elliptical machines at our fitness center, but if I get on and really push it hard, I can expect to be in Afib within the next 24 hours. If I just get on and use it as a good stretch and flex session, I'm fine. But I think everyone's different.

They mean no steroid lifting, just low weights with good form and many reps to get cut.

Pete is right. Just a couple of years ago I was benching 315 up to 405 on occasion. I read a Q&A last year where Dr Chinitz talked about the increased pressure on the pulmonary veins from weight lifting causing AFIB. Now I drastically cut down on my lfiting and don't even bench anymore just use the machines. Now I feel like AFIB put a skirt on me :)
