Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
I had my DNA analysed by a company called 23andMe. What interesting stuff! Among the things that came back was my sensitivity to Warafin. (I'm on aspirin for now-- but nice to know for the future!) It said that I would need to take less of it than most people.
I found it surprising that my risk for afib was lower to typical! But it did hit some other things that my mother and grandmother had in their medical histories that I'm at risk for.

It even got my hair correct and eye color correct... and the fact that I'm vertically challenged. They even tell you about your taste (if you taste more bitter than sweet) and all kinds of odd but interesting traits.
You send away for the kit. All you do is spit into the tube they send you.. (it's a LOT of spit! You have to fill it up to a certain line.) You send it back in the box provided, and then in 6 weeks or so, they notify you by e-mail that your results are in. You have a password account so only you can view the results.
