Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

I had a heart monitor for a week and one event (11 beats) of Ventricular tachycardia was detected. I am now on Xarelto and sotalol .
I am going to see my ep in about a week.
I am quite concerned about this addition to the Afib problem. I assume my med will have to be modified ?

11 beats isn't a lot but maybe they will adjust the sotalol?

Yes, this is the intention of the EP.

Is there more suitable anti arrhythmia drug to cover both Afib and VT?

I don't know much about this.....I believe that antiarrythmics can sometimes cause other arrythmias even though you are taking it to stop an arrythmia.
Please let us know what the EP says. Those of us taking an antiarrythmic will be very interested to know.

Did they say anything about your QT interval? Long QT?

Sotalol is a beta blocker, not an anti-arrhythmic. I'm not aware of beta blockers having potential to introduce new arrhythmias like some anti-arrhythmics can.

Has your doctor given you a nuclear stress study (myocardial perfusion study) and a full echocardiogram study?

Buddyc22, You are right that sotalol has beta blocker properties, but it is an antiarrythmic and can be proarrythmic.
