Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Lately I have been researching to better understand fish oil benefits for heart health and many other problems.
In my visit with my Ophthalmologist(very highly regarded and trusted physician) I was introduced to an Omega-3 fish oil made by Physician Recommended Nutriceuticals (PRN). I haven't ordered this product yet but I likely will. At very least this got me started in understanding the importance of Omega-3 and the processes used to manufacture two very different forms of fish oil. I've got some links for reading the details below but to sum it up many fish oils are sold in an ethyl ester form. This is the result of purification to remove toxins and heavy metals(i.e. Mercury). The process changes the original fish oil make up from triglyceride to ethyl ester. The result is a "cleaner" oil but one that takes considerably more effort for our body to effectively and efficiently use. In most cases it also maintains the very fishy taste experienced when burping. I was previously using Lovaza, which is very pricey and turns out is an ethyl ester fish oil. Disappointing news considering what I was paying for it.
PRN takes and additional step in manufacturing their omega-3 fish oil to convert it back to its original form(triglyceride). The result is a toxin/metal-free oil that has no fishy taste with all of the absorption benefits of the oil that it had when it was derived from the fish. I was surprised that the price was about 1/3 of what I paid for Lovaza. It's more costly than the Nature's Made brand per quantity but in actual fish oil benefit the PRN Brand really requires many fewer pills to receive the same health benefits.
Anyway before i start sounding like a sales pitch I'll let you all decide for yourself. I'm by no means advocating PRN products but at very least it got me intrigued enough to look into fish oil manufacturing and better understand how fish oil is used in our body.

I'm very interested in getting feedback on this subject. I'm going to research a bit more but I'll probably give the PRN a two month trial to see if I notice any changes in my eyes, skin or heart-associated blood levels.

sure only the best stuff is used. I am 74 and just started to show
cataracts developing. I have been on warfarin for 1 and 1/2 years,
no change was noted when I started the krill oil.
My Doc's sub spesalty is nutricion and supplements. [sp]
But please note, everyone is different and has different reactions to
meds and supplements
