Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
I am taking one teaspoon of turmeric every day with freshly grind black pepper and one teaspoon of coconut oil. I have NOT noticed any bad side effect regarding the afib. However, my fasting sugar and the lipid panel (specially my triglyceride) have improved tremendously.
My fasting blood sugar has gone down from upper 90s to low 80s. My triglyceride has gone down from 180 or so to around 85. My HDL has gone up while my LDL and total cholesterol have gone down ( 125 to 95 and 195 to 175, respectively). This all happened after I started to take whole turmeric rather than just Curcumin or BCM95 in capsules. My turmeric contains a minimum of 5% curcumin.
I am not sure if you are taking turmeric or curcumin capsules. How many times have you tried taking the turmeric and subsequently it resulted in higher heart rate? Only once?
nymima,
I understand what you are saying and based on all the researches that I read, I agree with you 100 %. But, taking the Curcumin or BCM95 did not help with my knee pain or anything else. So, I switched to taking the whole turmeric which has more compounds which are more synergistic when they are together.
Also, BMC95 used to give me a headache the next day. Apparently, the latent headache is a side effect of the BMC95 curcumin formula in some people. But, some individuals have excellent results from BMC95 or even taking curcumin capsules. That is the reason, I always say, people must try supplements to see if it works for them rather than ONLY relying on research.
For example, vitamin C is one of my worst triggers for afib if I take more than 250 mg per day. But, every research shows it is a MUST for the body and well being (while it is close to poison for me).
To me, something is a trigger if it happens more than 10 times NOT only once or twice. Also, usually the intensity of afib usually depends on the amount of trigger consumed. So, I do not call something trigger unless it has passed my criteria for a trigger. I know turmeric or curcumin are NOT triggers for me.
My suggestion to people with high blood sugar or high triglyceride is, to try taking whole turmeric (not store bought variety though). More than likely, it will bring down your fasting sugar AND triglyceride just like it has done for me.
Amazon has organic turmeric with 5% or even 5.8% curcumin guaranteed. That is what works not the store bought turmeric.
Note -
I eat lots of carbs (white rice, white sourdough bread, beans, other grains, some sweets). So, my sugar and triglyceride should be very high. They were before I started taking the whole turmeric. Just my experience.
I take Nattokinase as blood thinner, 3 x 100 mg per day. It is a good brand and NOT any cheap brand in the store.

I agree that it's hard to determine a trigger based on one or two instances. But I'm a once bitten twice shy sort of person; I had three instances of palps and that's enough for me. But it could all be coincidence, who knows?
Again, I was just curious if others had this reaction; my guess is no!
It just may be what you are taking, turmeric or curcumin doesn't agree with you. In my opinion, we take supplements to overcome some health problem or for general wellness. If the supplement does NOT accomplish our goal, it should be stopped. There is always an alternative way to reach a health goal. As I mentioned before, vitamin C is one of my triggers even from fruits and vegetables. So, I absolutely make sure I don't get too much vitamin C per day otherwise the afib shows up.
I am wondering if what you are taking has Pirperine (an extract from black pepper). Pirperine increases the absorption of the turmeric but in some people it can cause heart palpitation too. Most turmeric supplements have Pirperine.
Hope you can find a turmeric/curcumin formula which doesn't bother you.
Scott.
