Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
In December I learned that I have an abscess in the bone under a failed root canal in a lower molar. It showed up in the x-ray -- no symptoms. There was a small clue on the previous x-ray 6 months ago. I have to wonder if it's related to the AFib.
I have really been trying to discuss with my dentist, endodontist, and the oral surgeon's nurse whether to just get the tooth extracted (and then would I do ok with an implant?) or to do the second root canal and gamble that the abcess under the root will clear up.
I went with the root canal a few days ago but I'm not confident that I made the right decision. I can't take the best antibiotics for the infection because of allergies, so I'm having to make do with Zithromax, which the endodontist said is "better than nothing."
I've had swollen glands on the right under the tooth, an intermittent headache over my right eye, and have felt lousy. It does seem like the Zith is helping, but not enough. There is a lot of info about how an abscessed tooth can affect your whole system. I guess I went with the confidence of the dentist and the endo that they could save the tooth. I wasn't sure how I'd do with an implant, being on Eliquis.
Any feedback would be welcome. They can't tell for a good six months if the bone is healing, and by then... well, with AFib you just don't want to aggravate it.

The antibiotics however are a different story.
When I was given a zpac with Prednosone....I went into afib off and on for a month. Sautee, this sounds like what you are experiencing. Longer episodes and more frequent. Yours will probably be better soon!
