is that 500 and 250 you are talking about on the Tikosyn?

Tikosyn is prescribed in mcg and there is a 250 dose and a 500 dose in mcg. I take 250 because the 500 mcg made me have long QT. I still get break through arrhythmia and the Afib and Aflutter, but much better than it used to be.

The therapeutic dose for Coumadin should yield an INR of between 2.0 and 3.0 (maybe a little more or less depending on other health factors, as determined by your doctor). Allowing the INR to go above or below this range is non advisable. Too low a number could open you to a stroke. A large percentage of AFIB strokes are related to too low an INR with someone taking Coumadin, because they neglected to take it regularly, or didn't have their blood tested regularly. On the other hand, too high a number exposes you to a bleed (intracranial or gastrointestinal) are the usual spots. definitely not a good thing. When I first started on Coumadin this time around I took 5 mg for four days, my INR immediately went to 10 which is extremely dangerous. I had to take Vitamin K pills for two days, If it stayed 10 for another day I who have gone to the ER.
Coumadin, is an important and life saving drug, but somewhat unstable and potentially dangerous. It must be monitored carefully.
Just recently on this blog, there have been several discussions concerning temporarily halting Coumadin for dental procedures or colonoscopy. This is dangerous. Any stoppage of Coumadin should involve bridging to another drug and close monitoring.

yes that is correct. I notice that on the 250 my heart rate goes a little higher and I have some flutters but no afib.

I take 500 and have never noticed any side effects from it, have had break thurs so I have had an ablation, still taking the Tikosyn as still in the blanking period, have had a few episodes but they have not been as long like the 24 hours plus before the ablation.
