Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

I had such a hard time finding the new site. Hope the format changes a bit.

I went one whole month without an episode then had one last night that lasted 12 hours. I am on Sotalol and it seemed to be keeping it in check. No clue what triggured it. It always sems to start in the middle of the night and I dont have sleep apnea or am overweight. This is just so frustrating.

Glad you found us.....horrible changes but I'm trying to hang in and see if it improves.
How long have you been on sotalol? I am on flecainide and I had a few episodes the first year. That was a big improvement from before when I had 2 or 3 episodes a week. Now that I have been taking flec for about 5 years I can't remember the last episode....it has been about 3 years I think. Hopefully, they will be few and far between for you too. Take care.

This is such a reality check for me... I work out 3 times a week with a close to vegetarian diet...but I hope I can overcome this.....or at least control with meds of which i am NOT a fan...LOL

Hi Diane, nice to have you back! Sorry to hear about your a-fib. I’m taking Sotalol, too. It has slowly, SLOWLY reduced the frequency and length of my a-fib, but I still get it every 2 to 4 days for 4 to 12 hours. It has, however slowed down my heart rate to between 72 and 90. So at least my heart isn’t pumping as hard as it used to and I don’t feel as bad as I did when I was on Metoprolol. I am not a fan of meds either but somehow, after a while I got used to the changes and now I wonder how I went so long with 175 bpm and a-fib for 2 to 3 days. The heart really is a wonder-thing and can take a lot but why challenge it to the extremes! Carpe diem, atp

I sure hope you will be afib free for a long time again! This afib is totally unpredictable. I too get mine at 3ish in the AM....for no reason that I can think of.

I am in permanent AF. - CHRONIC! I am taking rate control. b.p. med (don't stress about. It anymore) Hope this post is working. Let me know how you are doing?
