Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

First off I have none, despite playing in Heavy Metal bands in my teens and twenties and being a hot rodder to boot somehow I have 0 tattoos. My wife has several, but for me I have never had anything that jumped out at me and said "I need to be on you for life!". But I have been thinking about my current condition and think that I would like to find an artist that could do a custom piece that integrates pieces of my rhythm strip from my hospital stay going into NSR. Link it up with other parts of my life so that when I start getting down and troubled I can look at it and be reminded that I will get back to normal.

Just thinking about it.

Hmmm tattoo, not me, no extra needles on my body! Since the third leading cause of death in the US is doctors and hospitals, I wonder where the tattoo artists are? That's not to say that some of them aren't stunning. There are some Asian guys in my gym with absolutely gorgeous tattoos (of course, these tats were not done in this country).

It used to be (and maybe I'm showing my age), that some of the inks had metallic elements and that limited the wearer in MRI's, something you may need in the future. Personally, there are far better things to spend my money on. A trip to Europe, perhaps?

Go for it but first check with your doctor to see if there are any precautions you need to take if you are on anticoagulants.

IMHO I wouldnt put a bumper sticker on a Ferrari. Well, thats what I tell anyone who asks me why I dont have any tattoos.

But if you do decide to get one, I agree with Opsyn be sure there are no problems with anticoagulants!! VERY IMPORTANT.

Interesting. A very personal choice for sure. Nice to see the anti-coagulants comment. The only advice I have on this subject is that it costs as much or more to get one removed than to get one in the first place. So be sure it's done right. Personally, the only thing I want to be reminded of when it comes to AFIB is that I'm not in AFIB. Good luck. ;)

I wouldn't get it, personally.

I'm worried about getting a colonoscopy on an anticoagulant and you're worried about a tattoo? How things change. Oh, to be young again.

Now that I think about it, my wife said "I need to be on you for life!" to me also, but I think she meant something else.

Keepumping I'm not really sure what your comment is about...?

I only take a low dose aspirin so I'm not to worried about that. Mainly my thought was to have something that is a permanent reminder to stay strong and positive. The abnormal rhythm feeding into the normal rhythm I think reminds that it will pass.

Idk. Just trying to think outside the box to help with the mental aspects...
