I was on Sotalol by itself for some time, then combined with Cardizem. Both times worked well for a couple of years. The only side effect I had was it made me tired, but I did get use to it. Good Luck!

hi i was on sotolol for a while, only side affect i had was it made me quite tired...i am now on flecanide not because the sotolol didn't work just cardiologist wanted me to use something different

120mg twice a day, no side effects that I know of? I am tired, but not sure if that's from the meds or my condition? I know one thing, if you look up any medication on the net and look at the side effects it will freak you out

I'm on Sotalol and it works great for me. My side effects are tiredness, some ringing in the ears and weight gain, but no Afib. Reading the list of potential side effects of any drug is scary and this medication has been around for years and is well understood and even used in pediatric cases which always eases my concern. Just my 2 cents.

I was on Sotalol for a number of years. Doctor tried to put me on several other drugs each of which put me into Afib vs helping. Each time I went back to Sotalol with no monitoring and it worked fine. I did not notice tiredness with the drug but did have very very low heart rate which made the first half mile of a run (I was and still am a runner) pretty rough getting my heart rate up. It and other drugs never controlled Afib for me. Had events roughly 2 to 4 times a month, always when resting (not active). I had an ablation 3.75 years ago....have had one lone event since the ablation and that was a little over a year ago. My Afib always converted when I ran which became my conversion method ....worked 100% over three/four years. I was one of those for whom Afib awareness was a problem ....probably 50% mental...but it was what it was.....so I went for the ablation and would do it again. Meanwhile I avoid what appear to be "triggers" for me. Cold drinks and large meals. Good luck.

thank u sanibel and liljohny! ive started sotalol out patient as well. worried about the warning about 3 days in hospital to start it. i run and mountain bike. yoga as well. but when this started last month it has really screwed me up mentally. ie, anxiety mostly. sotalol is first drug to try. hope it helps. lata.

I also take Sotalol 80 Mg twice daily and Warfarin. Had first attack last March and was put on Diltiazem and Warfarin. Diltiazem made me feel bad but I took it to 6 months, eventually with just aspirin. In Sept.had a bad attack was in hospital again to 3 days. They finally put me on Sotalol and I went home next day. I, like u, was terrified of these medicines, but Heide. (Sanibel) is right. She helped Me previously, as many others have. If u read all the side effects they scare u to death (listen to the commercials on. T.V. ) Sotalol made me tired at first but am getting used to it. I sometimes get skipped/paused beats. My h.r. was slow at first but now is in high 50's and usually stays around 60. Occasionally it does go down to the high 40's. Hope u do well on it. Take care and hope u stay in NSR.

P.S. Have u had ur heart fully tested? I have every test and they can't find anything wrong with it!!!!

Thanks Christine, ive had all the tests except heart cath. all normal. i go into afib almost every night. Started the beginning of Jan. I always self convert, but the symptoms are pretty bad. Some chest pain, then racing heart beats and irregular beats. some nights very hard to sleep. The insert for Sotalol just freaked me out, because it says that you must be in hospital setting for 3 days while starting this med. But doc says they dont hospitalize any one starting on this drug. I wish that i had never read that insert! :(

Sounds like u have relaxed some about side effects:) My son, Dr in N.O.points out that the drug companies are protecting themselves Watch the T.V commercials for drigs - side effects worse than treatment.So, sm trying to relax and think we are all smart enough to know if we are having unusual symptoms due to MEDS! I had all the same tests as you And everything normal, A-fib is so complex. Take care and give she Sotalol time to work. Keep in touch!

I have taken sotalol in the past. I suggest u try to stick to same drug manufacturer. I notice there were differences when the manufacturer cganged. Some caused chest and arm pain, some dumped the medience differently in your system meaning some may be effective immediately while others take a little bit longer. You may noticed a feeling of an elephant sitting on ur chesy it passes in about 4 to 6 weeks. Very I mportant u take at exact time morning and evening about 12 hrs apart. I notice at the 13th or 14 hour I wiuld go into afib. Oh yeah don't take any antacid for 3 hrs after u take it. It interfers with how drugs are absorbed in ur systen.

Sotalol 80 mg x 2 for 2 years. Effective in maintaining sinus rhythm but in my case unpleasant side effects make me want to switch meds.. Lethargy, laziness even in low dose. Nightmares too. Will be trying another med.
