Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
I don't think we can tell if those little incidents are afib or just tachycardia without a monitor...I have had several like 30 second runs...heart rate up, short of breath, a bit dizzy...but when I send in the readings on my heart monitor thing, they say it is just tachy, not afib. But it is scary to have the heart rate go a little crazy, even if it is only for 30 seconds. I have followed the advice of CANMAN and am now taking Magnesium, and am on the Taurine/L-Argenine combo as well, and that seems to be helping with those "extra" beats. Time will tell.

Whats your Magnesium dose and regime and the same for the Taurine/L-argenine.....I take taurine but am not sure about my dose and also would like to add the L - arginine......I currently take 400mg of magnesium a day

Don't tell the Army, but I am on this website at work...I will have to let you know the dosages tomorrow. I believe it is 400mg of magnesium. 200 in the morning, 200 at night before bed as recommended by CANMAN. But I will check. After reading on several sites that Taurine is the "magic bullet," my EP nurse confirmed that some studies show that Taurine and L-argenine are successful in helping maintain a normal rhythm. I believe that this is an incredible endorsement from Hopkins! I more or less expected them to say "Naturopathic stuff? Why not just do a voodoo dance?" But then didn't. Oh yeah, my health store says that you can get the Taurine/l-argenine combined, but they couldn't find it in their store, so I am taking the 2 different pills. Will get back with you tomorrow on the dosages.

I never took those meds you are talking about. Might have to ask my doc about them. Hopkins endorsed it? Wow! That is recommendation from the top!!
Sorry, was not at work yesterday. 500MG of Taurine, and 1000 mg of l-argenine is my dosage. The bottle of L-Argenine says you can take 1000 mg 3 times daily, but I just take the 1000mg with the Taurine. What do you think? Should I take the max 3000 per day, or just stick with the 1000 along with the Tuarine?
Heart, I don't think Hopkins really endorses it, they just said that some studies show that a Taurine/L-Argenine combo can help with heart rhythm. I was just stunned that they didn't say "No, you MUST take prescription drugs!"
